Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your PS4

PS4
PS4

Even with the launch of the PS5, you want to get the most out of your PS4. You definitely cannot throw it away just because there is something new and better in the market. It doesn’t really matter whether you have owned your PS4 since the beginning of time or if you have recently just gotten a new one, or have just upgraded to a PS4 Pro, getting the most out of your gaming console is a top priority so that your gaming experience becomes one that is out of this world-literally!

With all the features and extra settings hidden in menus that are less obvious to decode, you are definitely forgiven for not already knowing your gaming console inside out. Some of the tips below could immensely improve your gaming experience while some may provide small changes here and there.

How do you put PS4 into Rest Mode?

Go to Settings > Power Saving Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode and select the options you want to use. Supply Power to USB Ports allows you to keep charging any controllers that are plugged in after your gaming console is turned off. The Stay Connected to the Internet option allows your console to download, update files so that your games are ready to play whenever you return. It also allows you to upload your saved data to online storage. If you select Keep Application Suspended, you can always get back to your game and continue from where you left.

Once you have one of the above options selected, press the power button, select Power on the home screen, or hold the PS button and select Power on the Menu to enter Rest Mode. You will be sure that it has been activated when the light bar in the original or Pro model or power button in the Slim model turns orange.

Does PS4 Support 4K?

The original PS4 and PS4 Slim support resolutions up to 1080p, but only the PS4 Pro supports 4K output. You can watch 4K videos on PS4 Pro with Netflix, and YouTube. This is definitely one of the ways to get the most out of your PS4.

Can You Use an External Hard Drive With Your PS4?

You can get the most out of your ps4 if your gaming console is running firmware version 4.50 or later. This means that you can comfortably use an external hard drive to store your games and other applications. All you need to do is to connect your drive to the PS4, then Go to Settings > Devices > USB Storage Devices, then choose the Format as Extended Storage option. Once ready, you can install any download games as well as disc-based installations. You can also use this option to transfer games between PS4s.

Do you need Subscription to Play Games Online?

For most of the games, if not all, you will need a PlayStation Plus subscription in order to play online. It is only Fortnite that has an exception. You can subscribe through the PlayStation Store or by purchasing a code to redeem, and as well as unlocking online play, you also get two free PS4 games per month and 100GB of online storage for your PS4 saves. To see how long you have to remain on a current PlayStation Plus subscription, on the home screen go to PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription then check the date next to Expires.

Get the Most out of your PS4: Overheating

If your PS4 is getting very hot and the fan is making so much noise, then most likely it is clogged with dust that is preventing air from circulating to cool the interior components. To resolve this, bring it to the game console repair experts at our repair center to have it fixed. This will take at most 1 hour.

Ways to Speed up your Internet

Speed Up Internet Connection
Speed Up Internet Connection

There’s always something you can do to improve your connection at home.

WHETHER YOU’RE WORKING from home, binge-watching Netflix, or streaming your gameplay on Twitch, there’s no such thing as too much bandwidth. Even if you have gigabyte fibre mainlined into your router, everyone could use help getting faster internet around the house. It doesn’t matter if you have the best possible wires outside your house—eliminating subpar speeds and Wi-Fi dead zones is largely up to you. To help, we’ve put together some suggestions on ways to troubleshoot and, hopefully, improve the quality of the Wi-Fi inside and outside your place.

1. Move Your Router

That router in the closet? Not a good idea. Walls, cupboards, even bookshelves can potentially dampen your Wi-Fi signal. You might need to apply some creative cabling to get your router in a better place, but it’s going to be worth the effort for the end results. The goal is to get your main devices—consoles, laptops, and so on—as close as possible to your router.

2. Use an Ethernet Cable

We sometimes forget: Wires still exist! You don’t need Wi-Fi. A wired connection to your router is usually preferable to a wireless one. It’s faster and more stable and can’t be affected by other devices or large fish tanks. The downside is that it limits where your devices can be, and it’s less convenient overall.

To do a really tidy job and avoid having wires trailing across your floor, you’ll need to deploy some cable management to keep the Ethernet cable fixed to the walls.

3. Change the Channel or Band

Wi-Fi signals are divided into channels. Your router uses a particular Wi-Fi channel to communicate with the devices around your home, and if you have neighbours living very close who have routers using the same Wi-Fi channel, then everything can get congested quickly. Switching channels can solve this problem.

4. Upgrade Your Router

Routers vary significantly in functionality and price, but in this case, the upgrade to make is generally in terms of how far your Wi-Fi is broadcast. If you have a large house, you’re likely better off with a router that can pair with “repeaters” that broadcast signals into the farthest reaches of your home. Smaller homes and apartments can generally get by with a simpler system.

5. Get a Wi-Fi Extender

If messing around with your router settings seems too daunting, and you have a few dollars to spare, invest in a Wi-Fi extender or repeater. These devices plug into a spare wall socket, connect to the wireless internet getting beamed out by your router, and then extend it.

They’re (usually) simple to set up, easy to use and can instantly get rid of Wi-Fi dead zones in your house. The extended or repeated wireless signals won’t be as strong as the ones coming straight from your router, so again, positioning is important. Try to use these devices to connect gadgets that don’t need a huge amount of bandwidth.

6. Add a Password to Your Wi-Fi

We probably don’t have to tell you this, but you need a password on your Wi-Fi network. It’s good for keeping hackers away and keeping neighbours from Netflixing off of your bandwidth, which will definitely slow you down. Make sure you use AES encryption, which is both the most secure and most speed-friendly security option.

7. Cut Off Unused Devices

Having dozens of things tapping into the Wi-Fi at once can be problematic. Plug anything you can into Ethernet, and unplug anything you have connected but don’t need. Make sure only the things that need internet get internet.

9. Restart Your Router?

We’ve read this tip many times on the web, but we were skeptical. Restarting your router on a regular basis sounds like an extension of the age-old pseudo solution to everything digital: Reboot it. Yes, we know restarting your router can sometimes fix dead internet.

How to save your Laptop/Computer after a liquid spill?

Laptop from liquid damage
Laptop from liquid damage

Spilling coffee, juice or water on a laptop might seem like the end of the world, but there’s a good chance of salvaging your investment if you act quickly. According to our  Laptop technician, here’s a five-step DIY plan to rescue a laptop after a liquid spill.

1. Switch the laptop off.

Shut down the laptop. Pressing and holding the power button for five seconds is the quickest. Remove the power cord, unplug any peripherals and remove the battery. The biggest danger at this time is the device shorting out.

2. Remove excess liquid from the laptop.

Blot up excess liquid with a soft lint-free cloth or paper towels. Do not use a wiping motion as that just spreads the liquid further.

3. Turn the laptop over.

With the laptop facing away from you, tilt it from side to side and from front to back in a gentle rocking motion to help the liquid to escape from all four sides.

4. Use compressed air to dry the laptop.

Make sure that you have removed all excess liquid. Then, if you have one, use a can of compressed air to help dry the laptop. Alternatively, use a hair dryer on its coolest setting: keep the dry moving all the time and hold it at least 20 cm above the laptop.

5. Leave the laptop to completely dry out.

Leave the laptop opened in an inverted “V” shape in a warm area, to completely dry out. Do not leave it in direct sunlight or on a radiator. Wait for 24 hours or longer, making sure the keyboard is completely dry, before reinstalling the battery and peripherals.

If you must replace your laptop keyboard:

Most laptop keyboards can be replaced by our technicians, or you can purchase a new USB or wireless keyboard from SP HUB to use with the laptop.

Tips to Minimize Battery Drain

Battery drain issues
Battery drain issues

Done are the days when the phone was just limited to calling, texting perhaps the games that occupied our free time, Nokia 3310 lovers, bet you’re with me on this. Well times have changed and now, whether an Android or iPhone user, we all use our phones a lot. if it’s not our Google Maps, Gmail, Microsoft Excel, It’s our Gaming Apps or our wallet, our music, our camera… And we all have one similar query: Why does my phone battery die so quickly.

With each new iPhone or Android update, we get brighter and bigger screens along with a whole barrage of features that help to make our daily lives easier. While all of this technology is pretty cool and efficient, it can also be a big drain on your battery.

Luckily enough the tech experts have some steps you can take on your Android phone to improve battery health. Because when you get more life out of your phone’s battery, you can do more with your day. And that’s where Fixsquad comes in

How to improve Android battery life

Limit your push notifications

We get it. Notifications are how we all stay connected and in the know when it comes to the latest news, what’s the progress of your food delivery, the final score to that Champions League game – but they can also zap your battery. Decide which push alerts you can live without and make the adjustment to only the ones you need

  • Go to Settings, then tap Notifications. From there, you can select which apps you want to receive notifications from

Adjust your location services

Apps like Google Maps, Waze help you get from one place to another. They do this by using your location services, which when running in the background, can lead to quicker Android battery drain.

  • Go to Settings, then tap Biometrics and Security.
  • Tap Location, then tap the Location switch to either turn it off altogether, or you can click App Permissions and choose individually which apps you want to restrict.

Turn off Background App Refresh

Not only can Background App Refresh be a drain on your phone’s data, it can also have a negative impact on your phone’s battery life. Limiting the number of apps that you allow to use Background App Refresh can improve it. Try turning it off on one of the apps that updates frequently (Hint: it’s probably Instagram, Whatsapp or your other social media apps).

  • Go to Settings, then tap Connections.
  • From there, tap Data usage , then select an app to toggle on or off “Allow background data usage.”

Adjust your screen brightness and screen timeout

Lowering your screen’s brightness even a little bit can pay off with big battery savings. Set your screen brightness to the lowest setting that you’re comfortable with. You can also click on Auto Brightness to adjust it to your surroundings.

  • Go to Settings > tap Display > then adjust the slider at the top.
  • Or just swipe up from the bottom of the screen and adjust the slider to your preferred brightness.

Another setting that’s worth adjusting is your phone’s screen timeout. Setting your phone to timeout after 20 seconds of you not using it versus two minutes will help to cut down on power usage.

  • Go to Settings > tap Display > scroll down to Screen timeout > select timeout.

Turn on your phone’s battery saving option

When you’re in a bind, the quickest fix is to turn on your phone’s battery saver mode. This allows you to save power until you can plug your phone in for its next charge. You can turn battery saver mode on at any time or set it up to turn on automatically.

  • Go to Settings, then tap Device care.
  • From there, tap Battery. Select either Off, Mid or Max to extend your battery life.

Forgot Your iPhone or iPad Passcode? Here’s How to Reset the Password!

iPhone
iPhone

If you forget the iPhone passcode, you will know it is very inconvenient. All your contacts, photos, social media accounts, and more can be safely locked between that lock screen-but you cannot use any of them.

Maybe you reset your password recently, but you never remember what to do for the rest of your life. Or, maybe you haven’t used your phone for a while and you forgot how to access it.

No matter what happens, Apple makes sure you can reset a forgotten iPhone (or iPad or iPod) passcode.

I hope you backed up your device recently, because you may lose some of the latest data in the process. Obviously, people are always trying to back up your device, not for their own entertainment, so please proceed with caution.

How to reset your iPhone passcode

reset your iPhone passcode

Before resetting your password, you need to choose a method to wipe your device. Unfortunately, if you forget the password, this is a prerequisite for resetting the iPhone password. Therefore, backup note-if you have not backed up before, the device data will not be saved.

 iPhone 8 or Later

To reset a newer model of iPhone, the situation has changed. You will need to use the computer like the old model. Before connecting and following the reset options listed below, put your iPhone in recovery mode.

  • Don’t plug the phone into the computer yet. Press and hold the side button until the phone provides you with a sliding cover to turn off the power.
  • Drag the slider at the top of the screen and close it.
  • When you plug the side button into the computer, press and hold the side button again.

If done correctly, then we are good to go.

Reset your passcode using iTunes

Reset your passcode using iTunes

  • If you have previously synced your device with iTunes, you can erase the device and its password on the software. Connect the device to the computer it is synced with, then open iTunes
  • If you are asked to enter a password, try to synchronize with another computer. If this doesn’t work, use recovery mode
  • Wait for iTunes to sync your device and make a backup
  • After synchronization and backup are complete, click “Restore iPhone (or related devices)”
  • In the process of restoring the iOS device, you will enter the “Settings” screen. Here, click Restore from iTunes backup
  • Select your device in iTunes. Choose the most relevant backup based on date and size.

Use recovery mode to reset your password

  • If you have never synced with iTunes, or have never set up “Find My iPhone” in iCloud, the recovery mode is the only option for restoring the device-this feat will delete the device and its password. First, connect the iPhone to the computer and open iTunes
  • After connecting the device, force restart
  • You will have the option to restore or update. Choose Restore. Then, your iPhone will download the software for your device
  • After the download process is complete, you can set up and use the device

Is your MacBook secure?

MacBook
MacBook

There is something about MacBook that pulls everyone’s strings. Be it the look or the performance, MacBook delivers the best.

With the outstanding features, the threat of thieves and hackers comes included in the package. It is prone to attract a lot of negative attention, therefore the need to protect it is even higher.

Having said that, there are plenty of ways by which you can safeguard your MacBook. Let us take a look at tips to make your laptop impenetrable:

1. Always remain updated

To keep your laptop safe, it is important to keep it updated as per the latest software. Although there are regular notifications sent by macOS, you can look out for updates manually as well. You can look out for software updates in Finder, under the heading About This Mac. Keeping up with the software updates will help you keep the hackers at bay, and protect your MacBook.

2. Make use of Firewall

The Mac operating systems tend to make their built-in firewall. This firewall helps to protect the intruders from entering into the MacBook, through LAN or Internet. It will keep the personal data in your laptop safe.

To enable the firewall on your MacBook, you can go to the System Preferences, and then click on Security and Privacy. Under this setting, you can find the Firewall setting.

3. Encryption to the rescue

Another feature that can secure your precious MacBook is Encryption. There is a feature called FileVault, that is used for encrypting the data. The feature is disabled by default, so to encrypt your data on MacBook, you need to enable the feature.

On your MacBook laptop, you can go to the FileVault tab to enable the encryption feature. There, you can select the preferred radio button, to choose if you want to access the data or generate the decryption key to do so.

4. Use a strong password

As obvious as it sounds, having a complex, strong password is a full-proof method of securing the MacBook. With a strong password for your laptop, it can keep unethical hackers from entering into it. To secure your laptop, you can opt for a complex password or take help from the Password Assistant Tool which is built-in in the MacBook.

5. Get an antivirus

In addition to the tips mentioned above, you can also get an antivirus for your MacBook. It can help you in securing the third-party downloads, and keep your laptop safe from imminent threats.

It wouldn’t be wrong to point out that our lives revolve around our devices. A MacBook will hold all the information that you need, and that is important. Compromising on the security of your MacBook is not advisable.

Hidden iPhone Hacks You Never Knew About

Hidden iPhone Hacks
Hidden iPhone Hacks

Get a faster charge

From charging faster to taking hands-free photos, these are the secret iPhone hackers you wish to know sooner.

There is nothing worse than watching the phone charging at an easy speed, especially when time is tight. To recharge faster, please turn on airplane mode. Doing so will temporarily pause the phone’s background noise (such as random notifications and GPS roaming), which will drain the battery while charging. Although there is not a lot of excess juice, it can take a lot of time. Next time, make sure you know these tips to extend the battery life of your smartphone.

 Save time on your searches

Need to set up a website quickly? This is a shortcut: when typing a URL in Safari, you can save a few seconds by pressing and holding the period icon on the phone’s keyboard, which will display a list of URL endings. The options range from standard suffixes (.com, .co, .ae) to less common suffixes (.edu, .ie).

Find out what your phone knows about you

Go to Settings> Privacy > Photos>  and see what your iPhone knows about you.

Do this: Your iPhone is following every step you perform. If you need proof, go to Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services>Frequent Location. You will see where you have been and the time spent there. It’s creepy, right? Fortunately, you can turn off this feature by clicking “Clear History”, and then swipe left on the “Frequently Used Locations” tab.

Set a timer for your music

Gone are the days of nodding to listen to your favorite snooping tunes. I didn’t get up until three o’clock in the morning, and the music was still burning. Believe it or not, your phone timer can turn off music at any time. Go to Clock>Timer>When the timer is over, click the “Stop Playing” option, and then select the time you want to play the music. When the timer runs out, your phone will automatically turn off the music (on Apple Music and Spotify).

Take a hands-free photo

You don’t need two empty hands to take photos on your phone. Just plug in a compatible pair of headphones and press the volume button, and your iPhone will capture the moment.

Record a video and take a picture at the same time

Speaking of the phone’s camera, you can also take a photo while shooting a video. All you have to do is press the shutter icon next to the video button. However, there is a caveat: Since the photo is taken by the camera’s sensor, its quality will not be as high as other images.

Erase text with the shake of your hand

We have all been there. You just vented to BFF in a long text message, but it was out of place before you pressed send. To quickly erase what you just typed, shake your phone and tap “Undo typing.” Do you want to come back? You can shake your phone again at any time and select “Redo Typing” to make the text reappear.

The causes may be difficult to identify, whether the glitch is causing a small or larger issue, but rest assured, by following some of our quick and simple fixes below, you can get back to enjoying the full functionality of your phone in no time.

  • How to Backup Data on iPhone
  • How to Force Reset/Factory Reset your iPhone
  • What to do when a battery is draining after update
  • Hardware problem – Visit us!

Whether you’re experiencing issues with staring deeply at a blank screen hoping for it to come back to life again or your battery just won’t hold power anymore, we have the solution! By trying out some of our hacks below, this issue can be resolved in no time and if the issue is still persisting after following our guide, our team at Fixsquad can assist you further.

How to Backup Data on iPhone

If you still have a device that is partially functioning, however, you are experiencing technical glitches and slow, unresponsiveness that needs fixing. We would advise if your device allows you to backup your data before force/factory resetting your device.

To backup your iPhone using iCloud, Firstly: connect your device to a stable WiFi network.

Tap Settings > (your name) > iCloud

Go to iCloud Backup

Then tap Backup Now.

Once this is completed, it is useful to double check that the backup was successful. To do this: Go to: Settings > (your name) > iCloud Storage > Manage Storage.

Now that all your data is safe and backed up, follow our guide below on how to force reset/factory restore your iPhone.

How to Force Reset/Factory Reset your iPhone

Force Restart

Force restarting your device is simply turning it off and on again – resetting the hardware without affecting software and this can solve the issues relating with your screen not responding/glitches.

Force restart iPhone 5/5s and 6/6s: Hold down both the power button and home button at the same time, hold down for 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear.

Force restart iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: Hold down both the power and volume button. Hold down for 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear.

Force restart iPhone 8/8 Plus/ X/ XR/ XS Max: Hold down either up or down volume button and the power/lock button at the same time. Hold down for 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear.

Factory Reset

Factory resetting your iPhone will restore the device to its original state, how you first received your iPhone. Therefore, factory resetting your device will reset your device’s content so if this is not backed up, you will lose what is on your iPhone currently. A useful tip to keep in mind before starting this process is to make sure you remember your Apple ID and Password, you will need this to factory reset your iPhone.

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Content and Settings

A pop-up will appear, tap Erase > enter your Apple ID and Passcode

Your iPhone will then reset to Factory Settings and erase all data stored. Once rebooted, you can then set up as new or restore from your most recent backup.

What to do if your battery is draining after an update?

If you see that your battery is continuously running out of juice after a full charge and you have just updated your iOS, we can understand how frustrating this can be. You may be observing the battery drain by looking at the percentage in the top left-hand corner of your device, however, you can identify what is eating up your battery and manage this in the Settings application. Firstly, open Settings on your iPhone, tap on Battery then Battery Usage. You will then see a list of all of your device’s applications and how much battery each app is consuming. By switching to “Last 24 Hours”, you can see here how much battery your device has eaten the previous day which can perhaps give you an indicator on which apps you are not using but are using the battery in the background and which Apps you may need to delete!

A useful tip to keep in mind to improve your iPhone’s battery life is to close the app if you are not intending to use it. You may see your battery is running out of fuel when you haven’t used your phone much and this is why apps that aren’t closed and are running in the background will secretly eat your battery!

For all models before iPhone X/XR/XS Max:

Double tap the home button and a slideshow of apps of what you have recently used will appear. Swipe up the apps one by one and this will close the applications.

For iPhone X/XR/XS Max:

Swipe up and across your screen until a slideshow of apps appears and then swipe up on all the apps to close them.

Hardware problem – Visit us

If you have tried and tested all of our tricks above and this has still not resolved your issues, your iPhone may have a hardware problem that will need to be assessed by our expert technicians at Fixsquad.

But, before you come and see us in-store, we would advise checking to see if your iPhone still has a warranty with Apple. They could be able to solve this issue for you! If you still have a warranty with Apple this may be free, however, if your warranty has ended, this will cost.
