Tips to Minimize Battery Drain

Battery drain issues

Done are the days when the phone was just limited to calling, texting perhaps the games that occupied our free time, Nokia 3310 lovers, bet you’re with me on this. Well times have changed and now, whether an Android or iPhone user, we all use our phones a lot. if it’s not our Google Maps, Gmail, Microsoft Excel, It’s our Gaming Apps or our wallet, our music, our camera… And we all have one similar query: Why does my phone battery die so quickly.

With each new iPhone or Android update, we get brighter and bigger screens along with a whole barrage of features that help to make our daily lives easier. While all of this technology is pretty cool and efficient, it can also be a big drain on your battery.

Luckily enough the tech experts have some steps you can take on your Android phone to improve battery health. Because when you get more life out of your phone’s battery, you can do more with your day. And that’s where Fixsquad comes in

How to improve Android battery life

Limit your push notifications

We get it. Notifications are how we all stay connected and in the know when it comes to the latest news, what’s the progress of your food delivery, the final score to that Champions League game – but they can also zap your battery. Decide which push alerts you can live without and make the adjustment to only the ones you need

  • Go to Settings, then tap Notifications. From there, you can select which apps you want to receive notifications from

Adjust your location services

Apps like Google Maps, Waze help you get from one place to another. They do this by using your location services, which when running in the background, can lead to quicker Android battery drain.

  • Go to Settings, then tap Biometrics and Security.
  • Tap Location, then tap the Location switch to either turn it off altogether, or you can click App Permissions and choose individually which apps you want to restrict.

Turn off Background App Refresh

Not only can Background App Refresh be a drain on your phone’s data, it can also have a negative impact on your phone’s battery life. Limiting the number of apps that you allow to use Background App Refresh can improve it. Try turning it off on one of the apps that updates frequently (Hint: it’s probably Instagram, Whatsapp or your other social media apps).

  • Go to Settings, then tap Connections.
  • From there, tap Data usage , then select an app to toggle on or off “Allow background data usage.”

Adjust your screen brightness and screen timeout

Lowering your screen’s brightness even a little bit can pay off with big battery savings. Set your screen brightness to the lowest setting that you’re comfortable with. You can also click on Auto Brightness to adjust it to your surroundings.

  • Go to Settings > tap Display > then adjust the slider at the top.
  • Or just swipe up from the bottom of the screen and adjust the slider to your preferred brightness.

Another setting that’s worth adjusting is your phone’s screen timeout. Setting your phone to timeout after 20 seconds of you not using it versus two minutes will help to cut down on power usage.

  • Go to Settings > tap Display > scroll down to Screen timeout > select timeout.

Turn on your phone’s battery saving option

When you’re in a bind, the quickest fix is to turn on your phone’s battery saver mode. This allows you to save power until you can plug your phone in for its next charge. You can turn battery saver mode on at any time or set it up to turn on automatically.

  • Go to Settings, then tap Device care.
  • From there, tap Battery. Select either Off, Mid or Max to extend your battery life.
